Do the British celebrate Easter?

Zaktualizowano: 3 kwi 2021

Easter in the UK

Here in Poland Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Silent Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday are most important of Easter days. How do the British people celebrate Easter?

Good Friday - the Friday before Easter Sunday is a bank holiday in the UK. Holy Saturday also known as Silent Saturday is very quiet because in churches there are no masses on this day. Then comes the Easter Sunday – the most important Easter day for us rejoicing in the ressurection of Christ. In the UK families gather for Easter lunch – the most important Easter meal. They often eat lamb and vegetables. Children play the Easter Egg Hunt in the gardens. Looking for chocolate eggs is very popular there.

And what about all the Easter decorations that for us are symbols of rebirth and new life? Here in Poland blessing the Easter baskets filled with eggs, bread, sausages, salt and cakes and sharing it with your family is an important Easter tradition. The British people prefer chocolate eggs, though, and fun time – it is common that the Easter bunny hides the eggs in the garden for children to find them. It is also time for holidays because many schools close for several days.

Easter riddle

First we boil them, then we colour them, we put them in the Easter baskets and take them to church.

We share them with our families on Easter Sunday breakfast. What are they?
